Aloha

I am getting ready to get on a plane for beautiful Hawaii tomorrow.  I have never been and my husband's wonderful mom and dad are treating all of us to this trip.

I just hope the 8.5 hours of plane ride there will be good.  I am not afraid to fly just do not want to be cooped up with others on a plane for that long with no escape!!!!!!

We also see on the weather radar that a tropical storm is hitting Hawaii today and tomorrow.  It is suppose to be gone when we get in tomorrow night but it is bringing rain to the islands this week.  Just my luck.  I am going to stay positive that I will survive the plane trip and the tropical storm!!!!!!

See that hammock I am planning on planting my self in one of those!!!!! Just hope I do not need an umbrella when I am laying in that!!!!! The only umbrella I want to see this week is in my drink!!

If there is rain I may see a few of these!!!!
Hope to see a lot of these.

Aloha.  Taking a week off from blog world for this beautiful trip from my in laws!!!!

Please check this Saturday to both my blog and Susan's blog for our Saturday Spotlight Feature: Blogger Behind the Talent.  You will learn the personal side of two special bloggers: Carol from Art and Sand and Mary Alice from Chateau Chic.  You won't want to miss their features.
Aloha See you in a Week.

Mixing Two Brands Of Paint!!!!

Good Sunday Morning.
I thought I would share a little make it up as I go along project I finished this week.

I am not sure what it was if the sun was coming in the room just right or what, but all of a sudden got the urge to paint my entertainment unit.  It was a stark white and looked perfectly fine but then I remembered I had some plaster paint and chalk paint.  Then I thought....... hey what might happen if I mix the two!!!!  The chalk paint was white and the plaster paint was Toasted Marshmallow.

I mixed the two together equal parts and I came up with this pretty linen/taupe color.  So I was going with it!!!
The plaster paint is the self chipping paint so I was anxious to see what the chalk paint and the plaster paint would do together on my entertainment unit.
This is the before of the cabinet all white.
Then one coat and it started to do it's thing!!!!
Second Coat starting to look even better.

I then just lightly used a sponge and a piece of really smooth sand paper.
With using a sponge the plaster paint was doing it's thing and I was able to wipe the edges where I wanted a distressed look.  I used the light sandpaper where I wanted it to look a little more distressed. You can see where some of the white from the chalk paint was coming through too. I was loving the results of my little experiment.

It is a little hard to see but the piece came out in a light linen color and distressed ever so slightly.  Just adding the little bit of color from the plaster paint to the white chalk paint gave this piece a slight hint of color.  So it kept my white cottage look with just a little warmth and character added.
It was fun to experiment and I was excited to have these results.
Have a great week.

Spotlight: The Blogger Behind The Talent.

Kris from Junk Chic Cottage, and myself (Susan) Must Love Junk wanted to do a regular feature on our blogs, something unique that hasn't been done before.   So we came up with an idea to 'spotlight the real life behind the blogger' in a more personal way.
There is so much talent and inspiration in blogland, and we thought it would be fun to bring you a closer look at the person behind the blog.
We decided to start off this feature with ourselves, and give you a more personal glimpse into our 'real lives' so that you can get to know us a little better!
We'd love to hear what you think of this new feature!  Without further ado...

"SATURDAY SPOTLIGHT: REAL LIFE BEHIND THE BLOGGER"

Every week on Saturday we will spotlight a blogger and have them tell us a little bit about themselves and their blogs.

Saturday Spotlight:
 The Talent Behind the Blogger.

I am Kris from Junk Chic Cottage

I have been doing my blog a little over a year now.  When I started my blog I did not think anyone would get me or my style.  I was so wrong.  It is amazing all the wonderful bonds I have made with other bloggers.  It was wonderful that someone else would get the love I have of re loving old salvage pieces, like doors and windows into my decor.

I am a nurse by profession but am a decorator by heart.  My passion is my home and having it reflect the things I love.  I have been married for 32 years to a Fire Chief that is amazing and talented with tools.  He can take my visions and make them work. You have to love a man with tools and that knows how to use them!!!

My husband Terry and myself.

We have two grown daughters.  My oldest daughter is married and they have a beautiful little daughter.  My granddaughter Abby is the love of our lives.  My other daughter is following in my foot steps as a nurse.  She has a  caring heart and loves her job of taking care of people.  I am so proud that both my daughters have grown to become the women they are.  They both make a big difference in this  world we live in.

My husband Terry and son in law Tim.  They are both firefighters and heroes in our lives.

My daughter Jennifer, her husband Tim and their daughter Abby

Love of our lives.  Our granddaughter Abby.

My daughter Kim and her baby, our grand dog Penny.

My daughter Kim following in my footsteps as a nurse.

We have a 10 year old basset hound named Libby that lives with us.

I enjoy decorating my home and writing for my blog.  My family is the most important part of my life and I cherish them.  I love to surround myself with old salvage pieces of history and have them become part of my decor. The more vintage and chippy the piece the better.

You will find old and chippy doors throughout my home. My signature pieces in my home.

I used old farmhouse doors to make a headboard for my bedroom.  I can admit I am a door hoarder!!!!

Old horse barn door.

Something else to know about me is I have an addiction for magazines and decorating books.  I have them stored everywhere throughout my home.

Pretty much anything salvage I can re purpose and re use in my home is my signature.

My nest is small but full of unique charm.

Well there you have it a little bit of personal information about me.  I have enjoyed learning and becoming bloggie friends with so many of you.  Please hop over to Susan's blog and let her introduce herself to you.  Please leave us a comment and give us some feedback on our new feature.  Thanks for letting us share a little about ourselves.

It will not hit the stores until August.  This has been such a fun ride this past year and half of blogging.  I could never imagine that I would be a feature in a magazine or that any one would even get me or my style.  So happy I started this journey with all of you.  I have made some truly great friendships.  I appreciate all of you and your support of me and my blog.  If you are a no comment reply blogger that is why I did not personally email you back about your sweet comment left.  Please know I appreciate all your comments, but if you are a no reply I have no way to respond back to you.  So I am personally thanking you all now for leaving your comments and entering into the giveaway.  Have a great week end.  Thank you again to all of you sweet bloggers.  So much talent, inspiration and lovely people you all are.

A Give Away and Announcement !!!!!  I have been published!!!!! I got my first Magazine publication.  I am so excited to actually see my home pictures in this beautiful magazine.  I have always loved my style and my home and my re purposing decor ideas but to see that others get my style, and a magazine actually wanted to publish my story and home is amazing to me.  I am so honored and thrilled for Artful Blogging to do a feature on my home and blog.  This is really special.

Artful Blogging Magazine has been one of my favorites. The pages and pictures are always so beautiful and inspiring.

This is the first time I had to write about myself and my blog for an actual publication.  I am not a writer so this was a challenge for me.

I am so thrilled and honored to be in this beautiful publication.  It is a great magazine that honors all of us bloggers and is always so full of beautiful inspiration.

To help celebrate my honor of being published I want to do a give away of this beautiful magazine.

Little update.  The party was a lot of fun. Here are a few pictures of the girls at the party.  I was having so much fun I forgot to take pictures during the games and gift exchange.  It was a fun night.

Best group of girlfriends.

We had lot's of yummy appetizers.

It was one of the girls birthdays so we had to have some fun birthday cupcakes.  This came from Walmart all done up like this. I thought it was so cute that the cupcakes were in a flower pattern.

It was a fun night.  I am sorry I forgot to take more pictures.  I just got caught up in being a hostess and having lots of fun to remember to take pictures.
Have a great week end.

Girlfriend Favorites Party Tonight!!!!!

Tonight is my summer Girls Night Out Party.  I do a knock off of Oprah's Favorite Things.

Here is how the party works.  Each girl brings a favorite gift for a gift exchange.  The gift should be something that is special to them or a favorite item etc.  Wrapped up pretty for the exchange.

This year each girl will bring a small item for each person coming to the party for the take home favor bag.  This item can be something of a favorite like a favorite candy bar, lip stick, household item etc.  Everyone will put their little favorite item into the favor bags.  So everyone goes home with one really big gift and a favor bag full of smaller fun favorite gifts.

Everyone brings their favorite summer time appetizer to share.  There is a prize always for the most creative and yummy appetizer.

This years summer party theme is flip flops and tropical drinks.  Everyone wears flip flops to the party.  Mandatory!!! We have a prize for the girl that wears the cutest flip flops so usually everyone blings up their flip flops.

We play bingo for prizes and do our gift exchange.  It is a wonderful night of fun celebrating our friendships and just having fun.

Here are some pictures of prep for the party and I will add pictures of the girls after tonight.  Just wish it was not so blasted hot here so we girls could have gone outside to enjoy the deck.

Beginning stages of getting things ready for the party.
Lot's of prep to do!!!! Fun Lei's were found at the dollar store too.  Everyone will get "lei'd" at the party. he he!!!

Two of my favorite candies are Fannie May's sea salt caramels and vanilla butter creams.  I also love the little snack size microwave popcorn.   So I am putting these together for the favor bags. I found the cute little pink and white polka dot boxes and pin wheels at Hobby Lobby.
I found these little cute flip flop manicure sets at the Dollar Store.

I put the little manicure flip flops and a nail polish also from the dollar store in each of these little flip flop gift bags for each person coming to the party.  Love the dollar store!!!! Found the cute flip flop themed napkins and plates at Hobby Lobby.

I also found these cute little solar dancing daisies at the dollar store.  They were so cute.  I thought each girl could use this in their office or car.

Here are the favor bags I made for the party.  I got the brown paper bags at Michael's and also the cute clip flower in the dollar bin at Michael 's   I cut out little triangles from scrap booking paper and made the banners for the bags.

Favor bags ready to be filled later this evening with everyone's favorites.

I found these cute party in a pitcher at Home Goods for prizes.
I found these cute bags at the dollars store to put the prizes in  and just added the banner and flowers to them too.
I found cute flip flops and these cute flip flop themed drink cups.  These will be prizes for the person with the cutest flip flops.  I also added a McDonald's gift card so each person can get a frosty beverage for their new cup.

Well there you have it.  The party is almost ready.  I will take more pictures later when all the guests arrive.
